When I teach my Photography 101 Class, I talk about a variety of lenses and what to use when…  I also mention what I think is the ‘best deal out there’ for new photographers.  This is a great “normal” lens.  Its a 50mm f1.8mm lens.  You can usually pick one up for about $150-200 depending on the brand of camera you have.  Often you can pick up a fairly new one second-hand for even less. What makes this lens such a great deal?  Well- for starters its ‘fast’ which means the aperture opens up to just f1.8.  Most lenses that go to f2 or 1.8 etc are several hundred sometimes even thousands of dollars more.  A fast ‘zoom’ lens can cost more that $2000.  A 50mm is a great lens for portraits because you wont get the distortion a wide angle lens would give you.  Because you can open up to f1.8 you can focus on just one small detail in the image and allow the rest of the image to go out of focus.  This selective focus allows for some great creative imagery!  For more details and explanations- join me in one of my regularly held Photo 101 classes!  Just $125 for a 2 hour class which gives you lots of info to better understand your camera and to take great images!

You’ve been asking for it and its finally here!  I’ve finally made some room in my very busy summer schedule for some advanced Photo classes!  We have 3 of them!  They have a very limited class size and will all be extremely hands on!  ie: you go home with some awesome images!

One is an advanced camera skills class where we learn how to shoot in manual, look at lighting and learn to ‘see’ the light!  This is so much fun and we will have a live model for this as well!

Another- landscape and nature photography skills!  Here we will be hiking at the dunes, and will capture some amazing sunrise or sunset pictures and beach/ water images!  Be prepared to be up extra early or stay up late for this one!

Want to improve on posing?  Our outdoor posing class will show the nuances of posing both men and women and even a family!  Live models and outdoor lighting will help you bring it all in!  Great way to improve your portfolio!
